development Research Project Center (DRPC), Kano in conjunction with the International Institute for Education (IIE) is partnering with the Leadership Development and Management (LDM) on girlchild education in some selected northern states to boost the girl- child education in the region.
dRPC’s director, Dr Judith Walker who disclosed this to Weekly Trust in Abuja said a workshop was held in Kano for principals of selected girls schools from Jigawa and Kano states.
She stressed that the partnership is aimed at strengthening the capacity of principals of girl-child schools in northern Nigeria and to improve the quality of the girl- child education. The director also stated that it was designed to support the schools in the area towards transiting from the old to the new WAEC curriculum on education which is expected to kick start in 2014.
According to her partnering with LDM fellows is seen as a step forward in the effort to enable principals of schools in the northern region to gain from their experiences so as to ensure that the quality of education is enhanced.
“As you are aware, our concern is to see how to bridge the gap in the education sector especially relating to girl child in the region” she said.
