The Kano State coalition of the Partnership for Advocacy in child and family health at Scale organized a town hall meeting with CSOs, traditional rulers, government officials, and citizens to discuss the proposed 2023 health budget as part of citizens’ engagement to promote accountability.
The Kano (PAS) Coalition observed the non-engagement in conducting the 2023 State Budget. It is against this background that the Kano PAS coalition collaborated with the Kano Open Government Partnership (OGP) and Kano Budget Working Group to organize a One-day Town Hall Meeting on the 2023 Health Budget with the Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) Committee on Health and the Kano Emirates Council Committees on Health. The Town Hall meeting provided a platform for the members of the Kano Emirates Committees on Health to interact with the members of the State House Assembly on the 2023 Health Budget and an opportunity for the Kano Emirates Committees on Health to make inputs into the 2023 Health Budget.
Hon Magaji Dahiru Zarewa, Deputy Majority Leader, Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) chaired the Town-Hall meeting. Other dignitaries that attended the conference include the Deputy Chairman KSHA Committee on Health; Chairman Public Accounts Committee; KSHA Deputy Majority Leader; Chairmen Kano Emirates Committees on Health; Representatives of the Kano State Emirates Committee on Health, Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Kano State Ministry of Health; Director Public Health and Disease Control, Kano State Ministry of Health, Kano State Health Educator; Representative of the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget; Members of Kano Open Government Partnership, Members of the Kano Budget Working Groups; Representative of People Living with Disabilities; and CSOs representatives.
Kano state government committed to maintaining the 15% budgetary allocation for health and taking the recommendations to improve health.
