2023 Health Budget: PAS CSOs organized a town hall meeting in Kaduna

The proposed 2023 health budget decreased by 3.96%. The health budget as a % of the total budget is increased to 13.09% from 12.74%. In attendance were the Head of Service; Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, Panning, and Budget Commission and Sport; Heads of Agencies from KADCHMA, KADSHMA, SUBEB, Kaduna State Mining Development, Kaduna Social Protection Agency, Pension Bureau; SAs to the Governor on Research, Human Capital Development, Administrators of Zaria and Kafanchan Development Authority. Chairman Zaria LGA. CMD Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Traditional Leaders of all the 32 Emirates and Chiefdoms in Kaduna State, Community Leaders, Religious leaders, WDCs, Politicians, Youth representatives, Women Leaders, Media, 4 Accountability Mechanisms on Health, Education, Social Protection, and Local Government, Open Government Partnership (OGP), People with Disability and Representatives of the State Citizens. All 23 LGAs and other State Citizens joined virtually. The Gov commits to finishing all projects for health before the end of his administration.

Recommendation from the town hall meeting for government:

1. The Kaduna State health budget needs to be increased to 15% allocation in line with the 2001 Abuja declaration.

2. There is a need for the timely release of funds for health activities especially FP, RI, and PHCUOR.

3. Reverse the reduction of FP funding in 2023.

4. Dedicate budget lines for FP and RI activities for transparency and accountability.

5. There is a need for realistic budgeting, activities, and programs that the State will have resources to implement.
