The Teacher Development for Transition (TDT) Project is an ongoing US Embassy funded project implemented by the dRPC in Kano State, Nigeria aimed at Training Grade 3 Teachers to Transition from Hausa to English in Public Primary Schools. The TDT project leverages on the existing learning from the US Government investment in English language teacher training across Northern Nigeria to improve the English language competences of 100 SUBEB Grade3 English Teachers in the area of transition from Hausa to English in 10 Government primary schools in Kano State. 

The project is designed to improve the English language competences of SUBEB teachers in Kano state by addressing poor English language teacher competences in terms of the poor Hausa to English transition skills at Grade 3 level through capacity building and mentoring.

The main project objective is to improve the English language competences of 100 SUBEB Grade 3 English teachers in the area of transition from Hausa language to English language in 10 Government primary schools in 5 rural and 5 urban LGAs in Kano State. The project will be implemented within a period of one year-January – December 2021

In collaboration with the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the American Space Kano, the Kano State Library Board and Sa’aduatu Rimi College of Education; the capacities of 5 cohorts of 20 teachers have been strengthened through intensive training sessions conducted in a Library setting in the American Space. The Project’s target LGA(s) project are Takai, Rogo, Bunkure, Kabo, Tsanyawa, Gabasawa, Ungogo, Gwale, Kano Municipal and Gezawa. Ten teachers have been trained in each of the following schools: Takai Special Primary School, Rogo Special Primary School, Bunkure Special Primary School, Garo Special Primary School, Tsanyawa  Special Primary School, Zakirai  Special Primary School, R/Zaki  Special Primary School, Dorayi Karama Special Primary School, Salanta  Special Primary School and Gezawa  Special Primary School
