The dRPC provided support to the Community Awareness Development Initiative (CADI) to host a sensitization workshop with Islamic scholars on addressing issues related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Maternal New-born Child Health (MNCH), Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), Family Planning (FP), and Harmful Traditional Practices (HTP). During the workshop, participants were expected to discuss these issues during their Ramadan sessions on Quranic exegesis.
The workshop included presentations on various topics, such as “Understanding the Concept of SGBV,” “Disdain of Family Planning Methods including the Quranic Based Reference to Family Planning,” “The Importance of Maternal and Child Health Care,” and “Gender-Based Violence in Islamic Perspectives.” It is worth noting that one of the participants who delivered a presentation on GBV was trained by the dRPC during a three-day workshop on the Role of State Hisbah in protecting women and girls from gender-based violence, applying Islamic perspectives.
The workshop successfully sensitized 35 Imams on key messages related to the prevention of gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, harmful social norms and practices and maternal and child health. The Imams were encouraged to incorporate these messages into their sermons and other gatherings, particularly during the Ramadan Tafsir. Overall, the workshop effectively engaged Islamic scholars in addressing important issues and promoting positive change within their communities.
