Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre (GEPaDC)

Grantee Name: Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre (GEPaDC)

Location: Askira Uba LGA, Borno State

Project Summary: Her Future, Her Right: Advancing Gender Equality, Safety, and Empowerment in Askira Uba LGA, Borno State This project is a three-month intervention to revive and complete previously disrupted gender-transformative programming in Askira/Uba LGA, Borno State; a region severely affected by insurgency, displacement, and chronic gender-based violence (GBV). Building on past progress using the Engaging Men through Accountable Practices (EMAP) model, the project aims to restore momentum in promoting non-violent masculinities and shifting harmful gender norms that perpetuate inequality and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

The project seeks to complete the EMAP sessions for 210 male participants to consolidate behavioural change, support adolescent girls through the Girl Shine model by providing psychosocial care, sexual and reproductive health education, and life skills training, strengthen community cohesion and GBV prevention and response through partnerships with local actors, and generate evidence and learning through endline monitoring and a summary report to inform future programming. Key activities will include resuming EMAP sessions, facilitating joint community reflection dialogues between men and women, conducting refresher trainings for facilitators and community focal persons, and documenting lessons learned. This intervention represents a critical step in reinforcing community resilience, strengthening protection systems, and advancing gender equality in one of Nigeria’s most crisis-affected regions.
