About the Program
The develoPPP Classic funding instrument, managed by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), supports already established companies headquartered in EU, EFTA, or OECD-DAC countries to sustainably expand operations in developing or emerging economies. The program seeks initiatives that blend long-term business goals with measurable development outcomes, promoting job creation, skills enhancement, environmental standards, and responsible supply chains through private sector engagement. Funding decisions are awarded via regular “idea competitions” held globally.
Deadline: September 30, 2025.
What Is Offered
- Financial support: between €100,000 to €2 million, covering up to 50% of total eligible project costs.
- Technical guidance and local networks, facilitated by implementation partners – DEG Impulse gGmbH or GIZ GmbH.
- Flexible project scope, from upskilling local professionals and piloting sustainable technologies to strengthening value chains and social-environmental standards.
Who Should Apply
Eligible participants include companies with:
- Headquarters based in the EU, an EFTA member, or an OECD-DAC listed country.
- A minimum of 8 employees, €800,000 annual turnover, and at least two audited financial statements.
- Demonstrated positive net income, sufficient equity, and liquidity to co-finance project costs.
- The program is open to firms with long-term commercial interests in emerging economies, where project outcomes provide sustainable development benefits – not to purely charitable efforts.
Application to develoPPP Classic must demonstrate both strategic business relevance and local developmental impact.
