About the Fellowship
The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Visiting Research Scholarship Program. The initiative supports international research collaborators to spend six weeks in residence at Harvard, in partnership with a sponsoring Harvard faculty member. The in-person residency is intended to strengthen global health research collaborations, foster academic exchange, and advance shared research goals.
What is Offered
Scholars receive full financial support for the six-week residency, covering housing, round-trip travel to and from Cambridge, MA, health insurance, J-1 visa fees, and a daily stipend for meals, among other logistical expenses. While in residence, scholars are expected to engage in active collaboration with their Harvard sponsor: co-developing work plans, attending seminars or events, and contributing to ongoing research activities.
Eligibility & Requirements
- The sponsoring applicant must be a Harvard faculty member or affiliated hospital faculty.
- The visiting researcher must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field (in exceptional cases, a master’s degree may be considered), demonstrate prior or foundational collaborative work with the sponsor (e.g., co-publications, joint curriculum development, policy work, etc.).
- The candidate must be eligible for and able to obtain a J-1 visa, hold a valid passport, and satisfy English language requirements.
- They must also be in good standing with their home institution.
Deadline & Application Process
Application Deadline: October 19, 2025 (by 11:59 PM)
How to Apply
The Harvard faculty sponsor submits the application on behalf of the visiting scholar. Required materials include: the scholar’s CV, narrative of the planned collaboration, and two letters of reference. One reference should come from the visiting scholar’s home institution confirming leave of absence; the other from the Harvard sponsor detailing the benefit of in-person collaboration.
