About the Programme
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB), in partnership with Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), has launched the 2026 SHOU Scholarship Programme to cultivate African expertise in marine sciences, aquaculture, fisheries management, and blue economy sectors. This is part of AfDB’s 2024–2033 Ten-Year Strategy to bolster sustainable aquatic resource management and build technical capacity across Africa.
What the Scholarship Offers
Selected recipients will receive:
- Full scholarship covering tuition, on-campus accommodation, meals, and a monthly stipend.
- Access to SHOU’s top-tier faculty, world-class laboratories, and specialized training in marine science, aquaculture, fisheries, and related disciplines.
- For graduate candidates, scholarship applies to both Master’s and Ph.D. level programmes in fields such as Aquaculture, Marine Science, Fisheries Science, Food Science, and related areas.
Note: Applicants are responsible for their flight tickets and visa fees.
Who Can Apply
- Be under 35 years old at the time of application
- Outstanding academic performance (e.g., GPA ≥3.0)
- Applicants must be nationals of any of AfDB’s Regional Member Countries.
- For Master’s: A bachelor’s degree (any related field), strong academic performance, with interest in the fisheries or blue economy sector, and proficiency in English (e.g. IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80).
- For Ph.D.: A Master’s degree (in Marine Science, Aquaculture, Environmental Policy, Economics, or related field), demonstrated research background (e.g. at least one published paper), strong analytical skills and English proficiency.
