According to the Minister, preparations have concluded to host the international stakeholder conference on the development of a single window humanitarian system that will consolidate all ongoing interventions for effective and efficient delivery of service to reduce poverty in Nigeria
Dr Bernard told the visiting Executive Director of the development Research and Projects Centre, dRPC, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, when she led her management staff to a meeting with the Minister in his office on Tuesday in Abuja
The Minister explained that the aim of the stakeholder engagement is to find a unifying system that will ensure all interventions from across MDAs, state governments and local government councils, as well as donor and private sector interventions, are articulated and fashioned into a single system mechanism that will tackle poverty in a coordinated manner, adding that a 63% multi-dimensional poverty in the country is unacceptable.
‘ A technical team has been established to ensure the implementation of the stakeholder conference in March, and we are inviting OCHA, EU, Oxford University, other donor agencies, as well as COSs, state and local governments, etc. to participate so that my vision for a unified humanitarian system for Nigeria will be strengthened through collaborations, ’ He said
The Minister then invited the dRPC to be part of the conference, especially due to its continuous support to the ministry in the areas of research and capacity building
‘Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the support we have been giving to the ministry and to formally invite you to be part of this international conference coming up in March, ’ He added
Earlier, the dRPC’s Executive Director, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, had informed the Minister of the organization’s readiness to collaborate with the ministry to develop a framework on monitoring and evaluation that would support the minister’s vision of one humanitarian and one poverty reduction system for Nigeria
She disclosed that the organization presented a memo at the maiden edition of the National Council on Humanitarian Affairs in Calabar on the need to institutionalize monitoring and evaluation in tracking humanitarian interventions in Nigeria, adding that only through proper tracking and coordination can poverty be reduced in Nigeria
