Education is one of our core areas of work. We are committed to girl’s education, improved education outcomes, education research, advocacy for policy and budgetary change and capacity building of girls education NGOs. Three key functions underpins our education work – 1) Research and policy analysis; 2) incubating innovations in education; 3) tracking and evaluation basic education program designs by donors and government agencies. The dRPC’s earliest projects were in the field of education, specifically early childhood development in the 1990s and where we were supported by the Bernard Van Leer Foundation to train government officials and community based organizations on best practices and techniques to run community based ECD Centers. Between 2013 and 2019 the dRPC has been supported by the MacArthur foundation to implement our girls’ education program – Skills4Girs4Life under the PSIPSE project. Strategic collaborations were formed with the NERDC during this project to support the revision and roll out of Nigeria’s new Senior Secondary School Curriculum. Other key activities included development of safe spaces in girls senior secondary schools in Kano and Jigawa States; teacher training to teach the new senior secondary subjects; leadership development in girls’ education for SUBEB and Ministry of Education staff and Principals of girls Senior Secondary Schools; vocational skills acquisition and micro-enterprise support for girls in business.
