About the Fellowship

The Africa Fellows in Education Program (AFEP) is a fully funded research and policy fellowship designed for young researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa who are committed to improving education systems through evidence-based research and policy development. The programme equips fellows with expertise in educational research, quantitative analysis, policy evaluation, and performance measurement while connecting them with international networks of researchers and policy advisers.

Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:

  • A USD 25,000 research grant;
  • Additional support of up to USD 25,000 for mentorship, travel, workshops, and conferences;
  • Participation in international conferences on the economics of education;
  • Access to specialised short courses and mentorship from experts and institutions including Stanford University.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country;
  • Be 35 years old or younger;
  • Hold a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field with strong quantitative training;
  • Demonstrate experience in quantitative data analysis;
  • Show interest in education policy and research;
  • Be affiliated with a government agency, research institution, or higher education institution;
  • Be proficient in English.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A two-page statement of interest;
  • A two-page essay on an educational problem in their country and how it can be evaluated using quantitative methods;
  • An updated CV with at least two referees.
