CKD: CCRHS-PAS To Build Capacities Of Health Workers On Who Treatment Guidelines In Niger State

The Centre for Communication in Reproductive Health (CCRHS), a subgrantee of the Partnership for Advocacy in child and family Health At Scale (PAS), will organize a capacity building training for Health workers in Niger State at the PHCs and secondary facilities on the New WHO treatment guidelines on Childhood Killer Diseases.

The training is part of the project’s capacity-building series to improve the skills of duty bearers to enhance essential healthcare delivery in states of PAS project. The CKDTWG meeting decided to conduct the training during its quarterly meeting held in Minna.

The objective of the platform meeting is to develop tools, organize high-profile advocacy activities, promote CKD activities, plans for awareness, and mobilize adequate resources for CKD services delivery plan including channels and services.

Participants for the meeting were Director of Public Health Niger State Ministry of Health, Dr. Idris Muhammed, Director of Pharmaceutical Services, SMOH, pharm Daniel Tsado, IMCI State Focal Persons, Permanent Secretary SMOH, Staff of the SPHCB, and CCRHS-PAS, and other civil society organizations.

Earlier, the meeting discussed updates on IMCI activity in the state; including fund allocation and releases for IMCI/CKD, ways of improving implementation of WHO treatment protocol and guidelines for the treatment of pneumonia and diarrhea, CCRHS -PAS assessment dissemination, and the issue of inadequate human resources across PHCs in the state to effectively undertake the implementation of WHO new treatment guidelines/protocol.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that the group would pay an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Health to request fund releases for IMCI/CKD activities in the state. Quarterly supportive supervision to PHCs and secondary health facilities will be conducted to ensure compliance with the new treatment guidelines and ensure availability of amoxicillin DT and Zinc Lo ORS

Other Next steps are:

  • CCRHS-PAS to ensure scheduling of the platform meeting monthly instead of quarterly in this first instance
  • Build capacity of Health workers in PHCs and secondary facilities on the New WHO treatment guidelines.
  • CCRHS -PAS to conduct advocacy visits in small pods to the Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Health.
  • IMCI/CKD state focal persons to update IMCI/CKD implementation in the state during the monthly platform meetings.
