About the Program
The CARTA PhD Fellowship is a multi-disciplinary doctoral training program designed to develop future research leaders in public and population health across Africa. Coordinated by African institutions, it combines academic training with structured seminars and institutional support.
Deadline
Initial application deadline: August 20, 2025, by 23:59 EAT. Nominated candidates will be invited to submit full applications by September 21, 2025.
What Is Offered
- A 28-month stipend plus support for research up to $10,500
- A laptop
- Structured training through joint seminars (JAS), including academic writing and data management
- Institutional backing including salary continuation and fee waivers at participating institutions
Who Should Apply
- Early-career academics holding a Master’s degree
- Staff members (teaching or research) at CARTA-supported African institutions
- Candidates with a research proposal in public or population health, not yet registered for a PhD (or in the first year)
- Men under 40 years and women under 45 years old
- Applicants with institutional endorsement confirming salary continuity and support for Fiji’s fellowship commitments
