dRPC, PAWED Sensitizes OGP Members On NFWP Design, Workings In Taraba

The development Research and Projects Center (dRPC) through the Partnership for Advancing Women in Economic Development (PAWED) sensitize members of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) on the design and workings of the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) in Taraba State.

The sensitization of the members on the design and workings of the NFWP was aimed to better position them to support the creation of an enabling environment through advocacy targeting government and other stakeholders for the project to succeed. Taraba State is one of the six NFWP implementing states in Nigeria.

The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Talatu Buba Bello of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Taraba State University and Ibrahim Maliki of the department of Business Administration, Federal University Wukari.

The anchors of the sensitization meeting introduced the NFWP and went ahead to explain the design, structure and workings of the NFWP and the role OGP will play towards the success of the project. “This is to sensitize partners on the design of the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP),” they explained.

In attendance were 20 participants drawn from the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working in the area of OGP with the executive members in attendance.

Discussion during the sensitization meeting focuses on the overview of the NFWP; objective and target population of the NFWP; structure of the NFWP at the federal and state level; working committees (Steering and technical committee); and the current state of the NFWP in Taraba State.

At an interactive session during the meeting, some participants especially the representative of the Nigeria Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Taraba State expressed misconceptions about the project on exactly what it was set to achieve.

To clear misconceptions about the NFWP, the facilitator explains in detail the design and structure; mode of recruitment; composition of the steering and technical committees and other issues surrounding the NFWP.

Participants who expressed that more training on all OGP members on the NFWP in the state can help to provide them with a more indebt understanding of the project added that advocacy visits on NFWP with the support of independent consultant will yield a better result.

At the end of the meeting the CSOs on OGP demonstrate understanding on the NFWP and expressed commitments to ensure the success of the project in the State through the roles they will play in advocacy.
