Grantee Name: Family Life and Community Health Society (FLACHS)
Location: Karu LGA, Nasarawa.
Project Summary: Empowering Female Farmers in Nasarawa This project aims to boost agricultural productivity, food security, and economic resilience for 100 smallholder female farmers, including widows, in two wards of Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, over 12 months. It focuses on providing free access to climate-resilient hybrid seeds, delivering targeted training on climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, and establishing communal farming groups to foster peer support and collective market access.
By the third month, beneficiaries will have received hybrid seeds and participated in three community-based workshops on climate-adaptive techniques, pest management, and agroecology. Two communal farming groups will be formed, one in each ward, to encourage knowledge sharing, shared resources, and coordinated sales. The project will also introduce market linkage opportunities and offer basic financial literacy training to strengthen the economic position of participants.
Through ongoing monitoring and evaluation, the project aims for at least 80% of the women farmers to achieve a 30% increase in crop yield by the end of the farming season, with at least 70% reporting improved household income or reduced food insecurity. By enhancing agricultural practices and building community support systems, the initiative is designed to ensure long-term resilience and development for women in agriculture.
