Civil society organisations in Nigeria are invited to apply for the SAFEStart+ Community Request for Proposals, a funding opportunity focused on advancing community-led approaches to public health and research. The programme is designed to support targeted efforts toward the elimination of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis, particularly in preventing mother-to-child transmission.
SAFEStart+ is implemented with support from Unitaid and led by PATH, in partnership with the World Hepatitis Alliance and the International Community of Women Living with HIV – Eastern Africa. The initiative prioritises integrated, community-driven strategies and research-backed insights to strengthen health systems and outcomes.
Scope of the Opportunity
This call specifically targets civil society organisations operating in Lagos and Plateau States. Selected organisations will support a Values and Preferences study led by Solina, contributing to the design and delivery of SAFEStart+ interventions in Nigeria.
Key responsibilities include:
- Community sensitisation and mobilisation
- Recruitment of participants for surveys and focus group discussions
- Dissemination of research tools among target populations
- Identification and engagement of participants for qualitative research
- Support for data quality assurance and collaboration with the research team
The geographic focus includes selected local government areas in Lagos State, such as Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Apapa, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, and Shomolu, as well as communities in Plateau State.
Funding and Duration
Up to $15,000 available per state
Project duration of up to four months
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be registered non-governmental or civil society organisations
- Operate within the target states
- Demonstrate experience in community engagement and research
- Have the capacity to manage funds and deliver programme activities
- Possess basic financial and organisational management systems
Strong applications will demonstrate deep community linkages, relevant technical experience, and a clear, feasible strategy for participant recruitment and engagement.
