
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, has set up a committee to study the findings of the research on chronic poverty in Nigeria conducted by the development Research and Projects Centre, dRPC, and the CPAN Advisory in the UK .
The Minister promised to implement the report’s findings and requested continuous collaboration on research to inform ministry decision-making.
The two organisations will partner on capacity building, evidence generation, data-driven communication, and sensitisation of citizens to the ministry’s activities.
These agreements were reached during a courtesy visit to the Minister on Thursday, 29th May 2025, by the Executive Director of the dRPC, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, along with her Directors.
The Executive Director of the dRPC, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, introduced the dRPC and its work in the areas of humanitarian interventions, research, and women’s economic empowerment.
She also presented the recently launched research on chronic poverty to the minister, published by the centre in conjunction with CPAN Global in the UK.
The research covered the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria and documented how insecurity, climate change, and farmers-herders conflict are exacerbating poverty in Nigeria.
The Minister commended the dRPC for its work in the areas of evidence generation, research in the humanitarian sector, and promotion of accountability in the sector, adding that he is an ardent advocate of evidence in decision-making making
He said the federal government is geotagging all social registration enrollees across the 774 local government and will soon be able to know every single information about them to help in effective delivery of humanitarian support.
The Minister announced the setting up of a committee to review the findings of the dRPC/CPAN research and promised to implement the recommendations of the research.
