International Centre for Investigation Reporting

Grantee Name: International Centre for Investigation Reporting

Location: FCT Abuja

Project Summary: Project Summary: Oga Lecturer: Empowering Female Students to Challenge Sexual Harassment in Nigerian Universities. This project addresses the persistent issue of sexual harassment in Nigerian tertiary institutions by equipping female students with the tools, knowledge, and platforms to take action. Implemented in the University of Abuja and Baze University, Oga Lecturer empowers students to report incidents, raise awareness, and engage university authorities in pushing for institutional change.

The project will train 150 female students through sensitisation workshops on identifying and reporting sexual harassment. From this group, 20 student ambassadors will be selected and trained to lead peer-led advocacy and support efforts on their campuses, guided by designated lecturers.

Key activities include the publication of four investigative stories highlighting lived experiences, sustained awareness campaigns both online and on campus, and targeted engagement with university management to advocate for policy reform and stronger redress mechanisms. An existing interactive website will support anonymous reporting, resource sharing, and updates on advocacy efforts.

By focusing on direct student empowerment and institutional accountability, this project seeks to drive meaningful change and foster safer, more inclusive learning environments in Nigerian universities.
