About the Program
The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) is a fully funded Master’s level scholarship co-implemented by the African Development Bank and the Government of Japan. Aimed at building technical and leadership capacity in Africa, it covers fields such as energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, and engineering.
Deadline
Programs have two intakes:
- For April 2026 enrollment: Submit by September 16, 2025.
- For September 2026 enrollment: Submit by November 12, 2025 or January 9, 2026.
What Is Offered
- Full tuition coverage for up to 24 months
- A monthly living stipend (approx. 144,000 JPY/year)
- Round-trip airfare
- Health insurance via host university
- Additional 6 months for preparatory study or internships
- Research or thesis preparation grant and possibly language/computer literacy support in some cases
Who Should Apply
- Citizens of AfDB member countries in Africa
- Applicants aged 35 or below, with a Bachelor’s degree in qualifying fields (e.g., engineering, agriculture, environmental studies, health, etc.)
- Professionals with at least one year of work experience in Africa post-bachelor’s
- Applicants not currently enrolled in any graduate program
- Individuals who commit to returning and contributing to their country’s development
- Not affiliated with AfDB staff or their close relatives
