Kano Governor fulfils committments to PAS advocates, appoints SPHDA board

The Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale (the PAS project) congratulates the Executive Governor of Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for fulfilling his promise to the collective of Nigerian civil society organizations of PAS during our visit of 6th August 2019 to appoint the Governing Council of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board. On Tuesday 4th February 2020 Governor Gunduje appointed the Board.
This appointment, with immediate effect, is evidence of the Executive Governor’s commitment to effective healthcare delivery in Kano State. A commitment restated by Governor Gunduje at the Annual Conference of the Pediatric Association (PAN) of Nigeria on 25th January 2020 in Kano.
As the PAS coalition of 23 CSOs applauds His Excellency’s efforts to ensure a polio-free Kano State, and an integrated child and family health delivery system, we appeal to the Governor Ganduje to continue to keep the health sector under his watchful eyes.
We also call on His Excellency to ensure that the newly appointed Governing Council facilitates the efficient and effective implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). We appeal to government to release health allocations in a timely manner for each quarter of 2020 and to align with the Federal government’s commitments for effective child spacing and family planning services within the framework of FP 2020 and the 2020 Federal government’s mandate to NIPSS to explore Population Growth and the Human Capital Development.
We ask that Kano State sustains the momentum for innovations and improvements in Routine Immunization coverage and call upon the Governing Council of the Primary Health Care Board to deepen Kano state’s well established tradition of consultations with grassroots and civil society organizations in meeting the health needs of the children, women, and men of Kano’s teeming population.
