Project Title: Research on Radicalization, De-radicalization and Counter radicalization (RCD Research)

Funder: DFID through Nigeria Stability Reconciliation Programme (NSRP)

Project Period: January – March 2014

Location: Northern Nigeria’s States

With funding from DFID through its Nigeria Stability Reconciliation Programme (NSRP), dRPC anchored a study to explore the various dimensions of radicalization and the counteracting actors, forces and conditions as the appropriate framework of understanding the radical violence of groups who invoke religion to justify their tactical resort to violence. The empirical findings of the study will then provide sound bases for proposing appropriate policies and effective strategies for deradicalization.

The project team succeeded in spearheading one of the earliest empirical research into BH Insurgency phenomenon. Papers produced were focusing on various dimensions of radicalisation and the counteracting actors, forces and conditions as the appropriate framework of understanding the radical violence of groups who invoke religion to justify their tactical resort to violence.  The papers produced by the researchers were condensed into policy briefs.
