About the Call
The School of Collectively Building International Research (SOCB) invites individuals, communities, and professionals from diverse interdisciplinary backgrounds to submit photographic works illustrating sustainability or unsustainability in their environment. This is part of a global effort to raise awareness, stimulate critical thinking, and shape more sustainable practices across architectural design, urban planning, infrastructure, ecosystems, technology, and more.
Themes & Submission Categories
Applicants may submit one original photograph under two categories:
C1 – Sustainable: Show a space, structure, or system that embodies sustainability through design, materials, behavior, conservation practices, or harmony with natural surroundings.
C2 – Unsustainable: Capture a space or infrastructure that is degrading ecosystems, damaging environments, or revealing poor design, pollution, or inefficient practices.
Each submission must be accompanied by a 400-word explanation, contextualizing the photo’s subject, the sustainability or unsustainability demonstrated, and implications for environments and communities.
Benefits & Recognition
- The top 8 submissions in each category will be featured in global exhibitions and published, giving creators increased visibility.
- The top 6 winners and 2 special mentions will be highlighted on the cover of a SOCB journal, magazine, or special-issue book.
Eligibility
Open to all levels – from school students to seasoned professionals. Applicants can come from any country and discipline, as long as they can visually express sustainability or its absence in built or natural environments.
