About the Prize
The 2026 edition focuses on the theme “Reimagining creativity and critical thinking with artificial intelligence.” It seeks to identify and showcase projects that use AI in education in ways that strengthen human creativity, critical thinking, and ethical engagement with technology. The award recognizes individuals, institutions, and organizations that are using ICT and AI tools to transform learning environments and promote inclusive, future-ready education systems.
Prize Benefits
Selected winners of the UNESCO ICT in Education Prize will receive:
- Cash award of USD 25,000 for each laureate
- UNESCO medal and official diploma
- International recognition at a formal ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris
- Global visibility for their project and impact
- Inclusion in UNESCO’s global network of education innovators
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be individuals, institutions, NGOs, or other eligible entities
- Submit projects that align with the 2026 theme on AI, creativity, and critical thinking
- Demonstrate at least one year of implementation with evidence of impact
- Show clear innovation in the use of ICT in education
- Provide measurable outcomes related to learning, inclusion, or teaching improvement
Projects from all regions and education contexts are encouraged, including formal and non-formal learning environments.
Selection Criteria
Submissions are evaluated based on:
- Innovation in teaching and learning approaches
- Evidence of improved learning outcomes
- Promotion of creativity and critical thinking with AI
- Inclusion and accessibility for marginalized learners
- Replicability and scalability in other contexts
- Clear documentation of impact and results
Application Process
Nominations must be submitted through designated UNESCO channels, typically via National Commissions for UNESCO or eligible partner organizations. Self-nominations are not accepted.
The selection process includes:
- Submission of nomination and supporting documentation
- Review by an international jury of education and ICT experts
- Shortlisting and final selection of laureates
- Award ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters
