About the Grant
The Wenner-Gren Foundation’s Post-PhD Research Grant supports individual research projects led by those who hold a doctorate in anthropology or a closely related field, including independent scholars. The program encourages bold, innovative work that furthers our understanding of human societies with no restrictions on topic, methodology, subfield, or geographic location.
What is Offered
- Up to USD 25,000 for research expenses.
- Funding may cover distinct research phases (e.g. multiple fieldwork periods), travel, living expenses during research, specialized software, transcription costs, visa fees, etc.
- The grant is non-renewable.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Applicants must hold a PhD in anthropology or a related field, or be within 5 months of receiving their doctorate (but must have completed it before the grant’s start date.
- Applicants of any nationality or institutional affiliation are eligible, including independent scholars.
- Applicants who previously submitted a similar proposal that was rejected may resubmit, but must include a statement explaining how they addressed feedback.

Note: The grant does not cover institutional overheads or fees for grant administration.
