dRPC partners with CSOs to generate primary data for advocacy on school safety & GBV in 4 Northern states in Nigeria

Following the dRPC 2-day training on 31st October – 1st November for eighteen (18) leading advocacy CSOs working on security and violence free schools for girls selected from amongst an application pool of 30 CSOs responding to dRPC Call for applications of Nigerian advocacy CSOs working for the safety and security of girls in schools located in insecure and conflict affected zones. The dRPC supported the state CSOs teams to conduct safe schools’ surveys in Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto and Zamfara to generate evidence for informed advocacy to key stake holders for improving security and safety of the girl child in and from schools.
Findings from the survey revealed the need for integration of community stakeholders in the strategy to combat school insecurity, urgent need for infrastructural development such as school fences and multisectoral collaboration with security agencies. The 18 CSOs mapped 20 advocacy targets to be visited in December 2023 in the 5states including Education and Security MDAs and relevant stakeholders.
An advocacy visit was conducted on the 8th of December 2023 by the Zamfara Safe Schools Technical Team with support from the dRPC to the Army commander yielded the commitment of the security agency to collaborate with Civil Society to create awareness on the need for collaboration and support from the community members.
